First days in Guanajuato

My husband and I have been planning to go to Guanajuato now for almost two years.  We finally got our butts out of Northern Arizona and dove head first into a three week holiday in Guanajuato, Mexico.  This is my first time to this area of Mexico and I was not sure what to expect but felt I had done my fair share of research on the internet and was well prepared.  What I was not prepared for, was how kind everyone is here.

Our first evening entailed hailing a taxi at the Leon airport for 470 pesos.  The instructions to our apartment included very specific details for the taxi driver as it is very difficult to locate.  It seems that men in Mexico suffer from the same condition as those in the states about calling for help with directions.  We finally pulled over in central Guanajuato and asked a Policia Municipal for directions.  When he was writing them down, he decided it was easier to just show us and got into his truck and gave us a full escort to our apartment.

We are staying at the Privada de Plateros 7 (near the Panoramica on way to Temezcuitate).

Day one was spent traveling from Flagstaff, Arizona to Leon, Mexico.  We did not arrive until past midnight.  The next morning we took was what supposed to be a 10 minute walk into town.  About an hour later, we realized that we had taken a few wrong turns.  I tried using my Google GPS to assist us to a lovely restaurant that was recommended by our host, however we walked in circles until we finally happened upon a little restaurant that specializes in traditional local food.  Below are some photos of what made the long trek downhill worthwhile.

Our entire breakfast that consisted of chilequiles, juevos rancheros de Guanajuato, four Turkish coffees and two filtered waters cost about 150 pesos.  Not too bad and well worth it after the workout we had.

The rest of the day was spent in the town center where we decided to hail a cab to Mega, which is the large, Walmart-like supermarket and then back to the apartment.
